Tiers of intervention education

Parents are informed and included in the planning and monitoring of their child’s progress in Tier 2 specialized interventions. General education teachers receive support (e.g., training, consultation, direct services for students), as needed, from other qualified educators in implementing interventions and monitoring student progress.

Tiers of intervention education. PBIS, like MTSS, uses a tiered model of intervention support. Tier 1 PBIS interventions are used for all students to create positive environments for learning. If individuals or groups of students need more support, more targeted interventions are used at Tiers 2 and 3. These tiers often involve support from counselors and other specialists.

There are three essential components to implementing RtI as outlined by Batsche et al. (2006): (1) multiple tiers of intervention, (2) a problem-solving method—not to be confused with the problem-solving approach to intervention or instruction previously discussed—and (3) an integrated data collection and assessment system.
